Dr. Andrew Stangel graduated Phi Beta Kappa from UCLA and completed his graduate study in history and civilization at the Universities of Wisconsin and California. A recipient of numerous academic honors and distinguished teaching awards, he has lectured at colleges, universities, and art museums and galleries, in the United States and Europe. Stangel also created and directed the Art History Tours program for the United States Armed Forces in Europe.
While living abroad, Stangel photographed the collections of every major art museum and gallery in Europe, public and private, as well as at historical sites and archaeological zones throughout Europe and the Near East. He has also photographed the great collections on exhibition in the United States, and has a comprehensive resource collection of more than 100,000 art-historical slides, which he uses to illustrate his lectures. "If it happened, or was created, sometime between Adam and Neil Armstrong," Stangel remarks, "I want to be able to illustrate it!"
